Canned by Power

A trillion or so into this mess and pretty much everything seems like it’s normal in this environment, but let’s just pause for a second and consider the fate of GM’s Rick Wagoner.

He just got canned by the President of the United States. Even though he didn’t work for the President of the United States.

Imagine coming home from your annual review with your boss and your wife asking you how it went. “Umm…”

Don’t feel too bad though. Wagoner is splitting with a cool $23 million in pension and benefits.

Picturing Diego

Check out this very interesting photo/bio of Diego Maradona.

PBS-Now: “The People’s Sheriff”

Interesting news/documentary from Now on PBS. I’d never seen this show before.

“One of the most controversial figures in the illegal immigration debate is Joe Arpaio, the longtime sheriff of Arizona’s Maricopa County, whose aggressive hard line on local crime has received national attention.”

Tell me who it is. Tell me…

My friend Daniel created a most excellent show called Damages. One of the greatest parts about the show on Fx is a new character added this season. He’s bad. He’s mysterious.

And his name, well, you’ll know why I mention his name right after Glenn Close says, “Tell me who it is…”

Up and Coming Writer, Find Him Now

My friend Jeff O’Keefe is an excellent writer who is on the way, I’d bet, to being a fixture at readings across the country. He’s already been published several places and recently taught fiction writing at Stanford. He entered the world of fiction after taking a break from an incredibly prolific copywriting career (you’ll definitely remember some of his TV spots, etc). Want to discover a new writer about whom you will soon say I knew him well? Here’s your chance.

Jeff recently read one of his earliest works, The Haven Line, for KQED. Listen to it here.

You can also read one of Jeff’s recently published works, The Great Crowd, at Swinkmag.com.

Knowing cool and talented people makes me cool. I’m pretty sure about that.

Enjoy.
