The Oscars were pretty fun, for the Oscars. But if you want to see a much more entertaining show, check out the Independent Spirit Awards on IFC – replaying on Feb 27.
It’s a much more low-key show where the Hollywood crowd dresses themselves and says what they want. Compare, for instance, Penelope Cruz’ two acceptance speeches. No contest.
Also, while the Oscars sort of makes you feel like a spec of dirt for not being in the biz, the Spirit Awards are actually pretty inspiring, regardless of your mode of creativity.
Take a look at this article on the economy in the SF Chronicle. The title and the subheads sort of sum things up no?
Title: Economic crisis ‘is as bad as they come’
plus, the subheads…
A Global calamity
Banks are in denial
Loan prospects dim
Oil, grain prices plunge
And if you are bold enough to read the text, you get this quote to end things:
It’s “a little bit difficult to extrapolate from previous cases, except to say it’s probably going to be a lot worse.”

Only a cool 39% of Americans believe in Evolution.
Isn’t about time we selected the other 61% the fuck out?

I have a case of jock itch that is relentless and alarmingly bad. Not only does it itch like friggin crazy, but it just set up a goddamn twitter account so it can taunt me.
