I’m thinking about…

I’m thinking about mattering again.

But I can’t decide. It sometimes feels good to matter. But people who matter sort of rub me the wrong way.

Maybe I will just position myself as mattering without the numbers or facts to back it up. Then I get the upside of mattering while being amused that I poked a finger in the eye of those who currently matter.

Stay tuned.

De-Press Conference

Slate’s Fred Kaplan:

George W. Bush criticizing someone for not understanding the world is like … well, it’s like George W. Bush criticizing someone for not understanding the world. It’s sui generis: No parallel quite captures the absurdity so succinctly.

Hitler’s Attitude Problem

Keven Barlow (recently of the 49ers, now thankfully across the country in a Jets uniform) on his former coach Mike Nolan:

“He walks around with a chip on his shoulder, like he’s a dictator, like he’s Hitler. People are scared of him. If it ain’t Nolan’s way, it’s the highway.”

Ah yes, that Hitler had a major chip on his shoulder (this is not to be confused with Bob Conrad who occasionally had a battery on his shoulder or many pirates who often have a parrot on theirs)...

Wouldn’t it be great if life itself had a trap-door?

10,000 Reasons Civilization is Doomed

Very cool site listing the 10,000 Reasons Civilization is Doomed. I am a bit partial to 1,193 (even tho my mom emailed in to say it’s not accurate).

The Split Decision

Once again, we have a split decision with W and Co on one side and our eyes, ears and brains on the other:

Here is Bush on the victory in the Middle East:

“The first reaction of course of Hezbollah and its supporters is to declare victory. I guess I would have done the same thing if I were them . . . Sometimes it takes people a while to come to the sober realization of what forces create stability and what don’t. Hezbollah is a force of instability.”

Um, yay?

Cartoons Anyone

Now playing in Iran: A cartoon exhibition on the Holocaust.

And it’s not just them, Mel Gibsonism is taking hold across Europe.
