The Book of Reimbursement

As a staunch Church/State separatist, I must admit I don’t have that big of a problem with the idea of shelling out some FEMA dough for faith-based orgs that provided shelter from the storm – provided none of the cash goes to peddling religion.

Having said that, the move could be seen to fly in the face of what religious giving is all about, no?

Next we’ll hear about the contract Halliburton won to rebuild hurricane-hit Churches.

Pass Right

“I just closed my eyes. I thought, ‘There’s no way he’s going to be able to make that pass. Not from where they’re at.”

An important pass…

Sometimes Partners Get Mad

From the Motorola CEO: “Screw the nano. What the hell does the nano do?”

Come Together

It may seem totally counterintuitive to some, but when it comes to education, nearly every study has indicated that diversity works:

Over the last decade, black and Hispanic students here in Wake County have made such dramatic strides in standardized reading and math tests that it has caught the attention of education experts around the country.

The main reason for the students’ dramatic improvement, say officials and parents in the county, which includes Raleigh and its sprawling suburbs, is that the district has made a concerted effort to integrate the schools economically.

And yes, this does mean that the rich and/or smart kids get smarter too. And it’s not just race or economics. At every level, diversity tends to lead to higher performance.

There is a professor at the Harvard Grad School of Education who has been teaching this fact for years. Bet he’s pretty happy to be seeing the message spread.

Don’t Repackage God

I am (politically, socially, and every other thingally) about as far from the Intelligent Design folks as one can be (actually, I guess the distance would increase if I were even smarter).

Still, they have the right to argue their awful and ridiculous position.

All I ask is that they call it what it is. Religion.

It’s not exactly like that theme doesn’t play in America. Isn’t there something pathetic about repackaging god, regardless of the end game?
