A pilot episode of the upcoming BBC drama Dr. Who was leaked to a few file sharing sites and has since been generating a lot of buzz on blogs and the like.
And those in the know think that the leak was an inside job.
And who could blame the BBC if it was? You get a bunch of early adopters to check out your product on the small screen. They get excited and spread the word making for a big splash when your product hits the mainstream airwaves. And if your product sucks, it probably will not make the rounds all that much and therefore there’s very little downside risk.
So, yes, it makes perfect sense for content owners to view file sharing networks as a marketing vehicle (and ultimately a sales channel) instead of viewing technology as something to fear.
