Adrants reports that Ashanti is not upset by the notion of having a little product placement in her latest video:
In her new video for the single, Only U, 24 year old Ashanti appears in a shower scene with Herbal Essence hair products in the background. It’s a paid product placement and the Grammy-winning singer has no problem with the merging of art and commerce.
“It made sense. It was a shower scene. You know, you have shampoo and conditioner in the shower . . . It’s the best of both worlds.”
Let’s not get too concerned about this. It’s not like Clapton’s first Miller commercial, Zeppelin pushing Caddies or Bob Seger becoming known for Chevrolets. What’s really shocking is that there ever was any item in any MTV video that wasn’t a product placement (and it makes even more sense when that product can double as lotion).
If I wanted to publicize this blog, I’m not sure I could come up with a better place than in a shower with Ashanti. Of course, I’m assuming that in the steam room with Beyonce is beyond my means.
