Freedom is on the Meander

In his weekly radio address, President Bush repeated what has become his favorite refrain: Freedom is on the march.

…The trend is clear: In the Middle East and throughout the world, freedom is on the march.

While there are some positive trends in the Middle East over the past several weeks and into, well, March, and we all love the notion of freedom spreading, I’m not sure I’m down with W’s choice of words.

It’s no big deal, but I just never associate the word freedom with the word march (outside of the obvious military connection). When I think of freedom, I think of it doing more meandering or wandering – basically being out of lockstep.

I guess it’s a small point really. We probably don’t want to be too literal. What are we going to say, freedom is on the couch?

Concentration is important!
