Donald Rumsfeld has explained that he think the battle in Falluja may represent a significant tipping point in Iraq.
“Over time you’ll find that the process of tipping will take place, that more and more of the Iraqis will be angry about the fact that their innocent people are being killed by the extremists. And that they’ll want elections, and the more they see the extremists acting against that possibility of elections, I think they’ll turn on those people.”
Let’s hope he’s right. Although I don’t think we’ve ever gotten a good explanation from Rummy or anyone in the administration as to why the Iraqis are tipped against us in the first place.
It seems that Saddam in spider hole didn’t do the trick.
