When There’s No Shark Left to Jump

When you’ve already brought in Rick Schroeder to take over a lead role, there is something freeing that happens. Your show jumps the shark. But from then on, you can pretty much do anything you want. That is the truism of life behind the scenes of the weekly network drama.

And thus, a conversation with the ghost of a former partner on tonight’s season premiere of NYPD Blue can do little harm. What are they going to do, jump the shark again?

And relax. It’s not David Caruso. Although he proved once and for all that reincarnation is not entirely uncommon among TV cops.

Concentration is important!
