Dissension Descends

If there has been one common theme when it comes to the last four years of U.S. foreign policy, it was the constant tension between Colin Powell’s State Department and the Dick Cheney led coalition of neocons at Defense and in the White House.

Well, that theme is ending, big time. Powell is on the way out. Condi Rice is on the way in. Rice has long one of W’s closest advisors and confidantes. Expect State to be in total lockstep with W and the Veep from here on in.

After November 2nd, everyone was wondering where the Bush mandate (or his perception of a mandate) would first make itself felt. It turns out that the answer is inside of the administration itself.

House cleaning is already well underway at the CIA. One can expect a similar turn of events at State once Rice hangs her name on the Secretary’s office door. Anyone think Armitage will stick around?

Over the past four years, there have been a few folks about we which we thought, “Well, at least so and so is in the administration, so there should be some restraint.”

Well, so and so is getting their you know whats out of there in a hurry.

Concentration is important!
