I can still remember watching the television scenes unfold as Bill Clinton took the very long walks (it seemed like several blocks to Madison Square Garden in 1992) to the podium where he was to give his speech. The messaging was clear. Break out your lighters, start screaming, crack open a beer … the rockstar is about to come on stage. I never knew if he would end up sharing the stage with top Democratic operatives or the E Street Band.
During the upcoming Convention in Boston, we may see John Kerry arrive on the stage in a swift boat. The slogan of the Convention will be the now familiar: Stronger at Home, Respected in the World and there will be a series of speeches that focus on Kerry’s military record and his readiness to fight the war on terror.
