It turns out that Aretha Franklin lip synched the national anthem before the final game of the NBA Finals in Detroit.

From Franklin’s producer: “We recorded vocals for Aretha Franklin last year at her house, in her vestibule. One of the things we recorded was the national anthem – the one that was played at the Palace on Tuesday night.”

One day we will tell our children of a time when singers performed live. What’s next for Aretha, a music video in which she bumps and grinds her way across a beach and a shotgun marriage in Vegas? Aretha at Home on MTV. The remix album?
