Back in Blackface?

Bill Cosby created quite a stir with a recent speech complaining about a lack of personal responsibility in the Black community and “people with their hats on backwards, pants down around the crack.” I have mixed feeling about Cosby’s statements in general (after all, he is basically echoing Chris Rock who he disregards because of a few swear words).

Life is not a Jello ad.

But there should be a debate within the Black community about how the culture is being portrayed in art. Are movies like Soul Plane and the general hip hop culture of pimps and hos so celebrated on the soft porn airwaves of B.E.T a dangerous step back into the past for Black artists?

Concentration is important!
