People often complain about the rise of the reality genre. But are these shows acutally being aired at the expense of something better? The general notion has been that the explosion of reality television has come at the expense of sitcoms and dramas. Not so. In fact, the programming that has been pushed aside to make room for reality includes gameshows, specials and movies. There are actually more hours of scripted programs on today than there were five years ago.
